Costume Designer // Stylist
Ayesha Khatieb is a costume designer with 25 years under her belt. She favors long form due to her love of storytelling and also the opportunities this type of work affords to create and collaborate with her peers. Her first foray into costume design was her high schools production of Oliver, a musical. It was instant, she fell in love.
She has filled nearly every role in the costume department and has worked on various formats. Short form work ranges from Stills – Marie Claire Magazine and Nivea campaigns to Music Videos – notably on Ludacris and Bobby Valentino’s Pimpin all over the world as well as Commercials – Coca Cola , Dunhill fragrance with Henry Cavill and Dutch Lotto for the Soccer world cup to name a few. Ayesha’s work in television over the past two decades has been dynamic and varied. Highlights include Crowd supervising on Black Sails and Costume supervising ITV’s first season of The Good Karma Hospital in Sri Lanka. Locally her work as Designer on drama series Die Boekklub garnered her a SAFTA award for Best Costume Design in 2018. The most memorable Films are Le Oddysee, the Jacques Cousteau biopic, which chronicled the 20’s – 80’s and allowed her to apply her love of period costuming, the Amelia Earheart story where she was fortunate enough to work with two of her industry idols, director Mira Nair and Costume Designer Kasia Walicka Maimone. Finally, there is Barakat, South Africa’s foreign language film entry to the 2021 Oscars. Learning from her experiences, she has incorporated the best systems and practices gained from her time in the industry.
Her keen interest in the narrative is what motivates her choices. In terms of conceptualizing looks for characters in every new story world, it is her distinctive eye, practicality, versatility and resourcefulness that translate. With her commitment to open communication and solutions driven work ethic, she is an asset to any team.
