Sulet Meintjes (Dreyer)

Biography

Sulet Meintjes is an award-winning South African costume designer and stylist with over 20 years of experience across film, television, theatre and commercials. She began her career in theatre in 2003 while studying Performing Arts Technology at Tshwane University of Technology, graduating cum laude, before moving into film and television and developing extensive experience across costume, makeup and art department.

Her work spans contemporary and period productions, with a strong focus on character development, visual storytelling and creating authentic, believable worlds through costume. Recent credits include the large-scale Paramount feature Children of Blood and Bone, where she was part of the costume design team; Angel in the Rubble, set in 2001 New York; and the award-winning features HEN and Silas en die Ysbeer op Tafelberg. She was also nominated for a 2026 SAFTA for Recipes for Love and Murder. With eight nominations and three wins to date, her work has received recognition from both the SAFTAs and Silwerskerm Awards. 

Alongside costume design, Sulet has expanded her experience into production design and art direction, including work on Sy, die meeue en die Heilige Gees and television commercials. Having worked across multiple departments, she understands the importance of creating a cohesive visual language and strong collaboration throughout a production.

She brings strong leadership, organisation and budget management skills to every project, with experience working across both small-budget productions and large-scale productions. She is known for building and developing strong teams, maintaining a calm and collaborative working environment, and delivering creatively within the practical demands of production.

Calm, patient and quietly assertive, Sulet is committed to getting the job done properly and, wherever possible, with a healthy dose of dry humour.
