Meliscka Gibson

Hi, I’m Meliscka. I work across Costume, Art Dept, Fabrication and Standby, and I’ve built a broad skill set by working my way through each of these roles from the ground up - mentored by some of the old-school legends every step of the way.

Standby taught me continuity, clear communication and how to stay focused under pressure. Scenic and breakdown strengthened my eye for detail, storytelling and understanding how to age, adapt or double items correctly for camera. Fabrication added practical skills: patterning, sewing, 3D printing, foam and leather work, and creating safe replicas - along with ten years of freelancing that developed strong time, budget and workflow management.

That combination led naturally into wardrobe HOD, props master and set dressing roles, where logistics, sourcing, supplier relationships and knowing Cape Town’s resources all come together. Each role I’ve worked in has supported the others and given me a full-picture understanding of how to deliver what’s needed efficiently and professionally.

I also work in stills styling, where I combine costume, props and environment to create the desired world.

All of this supports where I’m heading: Art Direction. I approach each job with a bigger-picture mindset while staying hands-on, collaborative and focused on delivering cohesive, reliable work.
